Critical Miss: Wizkids Sculpts
Wizkids' sculpts have been a tad questionable of late. For each Green Scar figure wizkids produced, they also produced a Cave Carson. Yes it's possible to screw up little starships, and Wizkids must be very careful not to upset the Trekkies, because they will withhold their dollars for a sub-par product.
And let's not forget that the digital sculpts that they put on preview never look quite like the real thing (for good or bad).
Critical Hit: Wizkids Sculpts
For mass-produced minis, Wizkids does an excellent job with their flagship product. Think about it -- every HeroClix set comes out with 40+ unique sculpts, they actually do a pretty good job all around, especially with the larger models... and they price is very low for what you're getting.
Much like the "full compatibility" point I made earlier, having Wizkids sculpts is both a Critical Hit and a Critical Miss.
Also keep in mind that we Trek fans have Starfleet Battles as a comparison. Sure, those are metal sculpts vs the Wizkids plastic sculpts, but it's hard for someone like me to ignore such a comparison.
That being said, I highly suspect Wizkids is going to come through all-right. Digital sculpting works great for non-organic figures, and should be especially successful when it comes to starships. And the Wizkids painters are really top notch.
